The game adaptation absolutely nails the graphical style, creating a world which is both whimsical and yet reflective of the Australian landscape that is so crucial to the success of the book. I love that Storm Boy is part of an unspoken collective Australian consciousness, and so while people my age might not be the target audience for Sydney based Blowfish StudioвЂ™s adaptation on the Nintendo Switch, IвЂ™m still hugely excited that thereвЂ™s now another way that people around the world can enjoy this classic novella. Two months ago, when a beloved used bookstore in Sydney closed, I picked up a water-damaged copy, and a bunch of my friends remembered reading the book too, even though none of us could recall any plot details. I have fond memories of this story as one of the first books IвЂ™d finished in English, and I think that if I dug around, I could find the poster I made on pelicans in third grade. ItвЂ™s a touching story of a boy living with his reclusive father on the wild South Australian coastline, and his interactions with the natural environment.

As I watched this great film, I was reminded of such film classics as Old Yeller or Where the Red Fern Grows. Percival and the profound effect their unconditional friendship would have on all their lives. This wonderfully acted and directed film lets us see the remarkable adventures and extraordinary bond between Storm Boy and Mr. Percival would never leave his friend Storm Boy and chose him and his father Tom to be his family. HeвЂ™s the only one of the three that came back after they were released into the wild. Percival, named after a character in one of his books. The smallest of them was the extraordinary Mr. He recounts to her the story of how, as a boy, he and Fingerbone Bill rescued and raised three orphaned pelicans. When Kingley starts to see images like pelicans or Fingerbone Bill (Trevor Jamieson) from his past that he canвЂ™t explain, heвЂ™s forced to remember his long-forgotten childhood with his father Hideaway Tom (Jai Courtney).
